  • Programs Overview

The Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce offers a variety of programs and professional services that contribute to business growth, human performance, and member cost-savings. Some are offered as periodic open-enrollment programs, while others can be customized to meet the individual needs of members. We have a highly experienced Certified Business Coach who can help you, your team, and your business close the gap between: Innovation and stagnation; growth and decline; inspiration and desperation; and your current situation and desired future.

    Coaching & Developing Leaders

Decatur Emerging Leaders: A group of young professionals from different backgrounds and industries in the Greater Decatur area, providing unique opportunities to network with peers, volunteer in the community, and develop professionally. By building connections with peers, local businesses and institutions, these leaders secure the community's future and ensure it remains vibrant and inclusive.

Decatur Leadership Institute: Fills the need for active involvement of informed and dedicated citizens in community leadership roles. Provides weekly sessions each fall where participants experience on-site learning and gain an inside view of the industries and issues that shape the Decatur area. The program includes team-based service learning projects and concludes with a graduation ceremony in early December.

Decatur Leadership Institute Alumni Association: Previous graduates of DLI continue their community involvement and development through networking, serving on community boards and committees, professional development, and providing scholarships for future DLI classes. Keep in touch through the DLI Facebook page or contact the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce.

Decatur Leadership Masters Program: Provides intensive character- and results-based coaching, collaborative learning, and training to develop “bench strength” of leaders within local businesses, non-profits, and government entities. The emphasis is on developing great character, influence, and commitment of people at all career stages who are capable of leading others to produce the results necessary for their businesses to thrive and grow.

Competitive Edge Coaching: Why do so many successful people have an executive coach? Because they know from experience that even their highly refined ability to see what is needed is limited by their own assumptions and beliefs. Professional coaching is tailored to the needs of individuals and teams to achieve more of their goals, more often. Contact the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce for more information or to schedule a complimentary executive coaching session with our Certified Business Coach.

Candidate Academy: The non-partisan Macon County Academy of Political Leadership identifies, encourages, and prepares citizens who are interested in public service or thinking about running for public office, as well as political volunteers and those who simply want to understand election process.

DISC Behavioral & Values Assessment: Measures a person’s preferred behavioral style, motivational style and personal drivers – how and why people do what they do. Provides practical understanding and skills critical to communication, leading or working in teams, sales, and conflict resolution.

    Growing Your Business

Entrepreneurial Strategic Thinking & Planning: Provides established businesses with a format for developing specific new strategies, converting those strategies into a business planning process, and establishing measurable and attainable goals, with the aid of a coach and using a world-class process and materials useful for years to come. Determine where you want and need to go with your business, and how you are going to get there.

Team Building: Improve your work group performance and attitudes by clarifying group goals and clarifying group members’ expectations of one another. Choose from a variety of fun, engaging and results-focused programs that help teams act on a clear, shared understanding and articulation of their common goals, roles, rules, and relationships.

Meeting/Retreat Facilitation: Increase the focus, efficiency, and results of your meetings and retreats by using an outside facilitator. You still set the goals, the agenda, the rules, and the tone for your meeting; your outside facilitator will simply bring your vision to fruition. Facilitators move a process along by setting and maintaining ground rules, assigning fieldwork and expectations, ensuring everyone participates, cultivating team-building, and keeping track of output.

Customer Loyalty Boot Camp: Develop your own Customer Loyalty Strategy that provides the focus for growth and sustainability of your organization. It costs 7 to 10 times more to develop a new customer than to increase the frequency of loyal customers. Learn about measuring customer loyalty, its direct correlation with profitability, and how to gain and sustain favorable attention with potential customers.

DIALOG Organizational Assessment: Successful organizations are continually looking to improve to gain competitive advantage. We help you answer three critical questions: how do we know that resources are being properly allocated; how can we better use our limited resources; and how can we know our strategy and structure are aligned DIALOG provides information on how well critical elements are working together to achieve business and strategic goals.

Economic Gardening: Economic Gardening services target growth oriented companies identified and selected by local economic developers or entrepreneur support organizations, and provide a suite of high-end, high-speed business growth resources. The services available in this program includes strategic research from a team of specialists from the National Center for Economic Gardening. In order to participate in this program, companies must meet the eligibility criteria, complete an application, and be approved by the Decatur Chamber and its affiliates for the program. The economic gardening program is managed by the National Center for Economic Gardening and is hosted by the Edward Lowe Foundation.

Microsoft Solutions Training: We schedule education programs and make connections with local Microsoft Partners to educate small businesses on how current technology solutions can help them operate more efficiently and empower them to grow their business.

Special Seminar and Workshops: Are you tired of being asked the same old questions and getting the same old answers? No one knows your business as well as you do, so we don’t do much telling. We ask the right questions. Let us know what you want and need, and we will do our best to help you find the right answers by planning public workshops, a customized solution for you, or by referring you to a better source.

    Money Savings Programs

CQI Energy Cooperative: Pools the purchasing power of regional businesses, allowing members to stabilize their electricity and natural gas costs. By purchasing energy in advance at a set rate, co-op members remove the uncertainty of fluctuating rates and add predictability to their budget projections. All members can participate in the energy savings program, though the savings each business receives will vary based on membership level.

Lighting as a Service: Alternative Utility Services (AUS), a registered Program Ally of the Ameren Illinois ActOnEnergy® Program, and the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce have partnered together to offer all area businesses the opportunity to upgrade their facility’s lighting to more efficient LED fixtures with no capital expense. This program is designed to allow businesses and institutions, big and small, to take advantage of energy and maintenance savings created through improved lighting efficiency without spending their own resources to do so. With more capital in hand, from avoiding the equipment investment and receiving greater energy savings, your business can go about putting money where you want to, back into growing your business.

Benedictine University Tuition Discount: Benedictine University at Springfield offers a 25 percent tuition discount program to the full-time employees of the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce members and their immediate family members (spouse and dependent children only). The tuition discount applies to new students only who are enrolling in adult undergraduate and graduate programs awarded by Benedictine University at Springfield.

Metro Money: Support the local business community with Metro Money - a gift certificate program sponsored by Kroger and administered by the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce. Metro Money comes in $5 and $20 denominations, never expires and can be used just like cash at over 40 locations. Many businesses use Metro Money to award employees for good performance and special occasions - and residents of Macon County purchase it to share with family and friends to help keep spending money local.

Cash Mob: A cash mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business to make purchases. The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community - and provide a social opportunity for participants. The chamber randomly chooses one business per month and promotes them by encouraging a cash mob at a particular date and location.

Auto Owners Insurance Special Savings Program: Chamber members receive a 10% discount on personal home, auto, and umbrella coverage. Members also receive a 10 % discount on business auto, property, liability, and umbrella coverage. In addition to competitive rates, a complete line of products, and prompt, friendly claim service, you may be eligible for several additional discounts, such as multi-policy discounts, depending upon your individual circumstances.

Certificates of Origin: A certificate of origin is a document used in international trade. In a printed form or as an electronic document, it is completed by the exporter and certified by a recognized issuing body, attesting that the goods in a particular export shipment have been produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country. The Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce will certify that local goods are produced in Macon County so they can be exported in a timely manner.

New Member Referrals: This is a continuous campaign held throughout the year to encourage chamber members to refer new businesses to join our chamber and to reward current members for each successful referral. This promotes enthusiastic testimonials about chamber benefits as well as a positive image for the chamber, and incents members to help create a bigger and stronger chamber who can then provide additional benefits for the entire membership. Each successful referral will reduce annual dues by $50.
