Volunteer Opportunity: Hunnert Car Pile-Up Hurry! Sign up ends September 11th!

The Hunnert Car Pile-Up, one of the country's premier hot rod shows, is coming to Decatur! This event is expected to draw up to 30,000 people and 1,500 classic hot rods to Progress City on Saturday, October 9, 2010.

Catherine Mayotte has served as the Pile-Up's volunteer coordinator for the past four years. She is excited about moving the event to Decatur and expanding to a new audience. This ninth annual Pile-Up outgrew its previous two venues and with the expansion, the need for "Red Shirt Army" volunteers has escalated.

Pile-Up volunteers ensure the event runs smoothly. Each volunteer works a two-hour shift, assigned to duties like directing parking, working the pedestrian gate, selling t-shirts, etc. Perks include free show entry, a special volunteer shirt and gift, and invitation to a volunteer-only party.

Volunteer shifts run between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., meeting 15 minutes before the beginning of each shift for training on frequently asked questions. About 75 percent of the volunteers have previous Pile-Up experience, but new volunteers are always appreciated. To volunteer, sign up online at the Hunnert Car Pile-Up website before Saturday, September 11, 2010.

Show organizers are pleased with the response they have received from Decatur organizations and officials. "The town has been very welcoming," says Mayotte.
