Decatur's First-Ever Lighted Boat Parade

September 4, 2009

Lighted Boat Parade Entries Sought

More than stars will be twinkling in the night sky on Saturday, September 26, 2009, as the Beach House and the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce co-host the up-coming Decatur Lighted Boat Parade along Lake Decatur's shoreline. Boat owners are encouraged to decorate their boats with lights and imagination as they compete for cash prizes in two "Best of Class" categories (sailboats and motorized boats).

A nominal entry fee of $10 is required to enter the competition. Entry forms can be downloaded HERE or you can pick one up from the Lake Patrol, or from the Beach House in Nelson Park. Entry forms will be accepted until noon on Friday, September 25. Register to join us for a night of lighted boats by clicking HERE!

For those who have questions, please attend our informational meeting on Thursday, September 24 at 6:00pm at The Beach House where registration forms will still be accepted. The meeting will cover details of the parade and answer any questions you may have as a participant in the parade.

The parade will kick off at 8:00 p.m. with boats lining up near the Beach House. Motorized boats will parade single-file along the perimeter of Lake Decatur's Basins 2 & 3, while sailboats will take center stage in Basin 2. Public viewing will be best from Nelson Park.

This inaugural event is scheduled to wet Decatur's appetite for floating parades. Beach House Manager Ken Davis plans on making the lighted boat parade an annual occurrence – although next year it will be celebrated mid-summer with a "Christmas in July" theme.
