The Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce will accept applications for the 26th annual Decatur Leadership Institute program through Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Applications are available by clicking here or by calling the Chamber at 422-2200.

DLI is going back to the future with a 100-percent community focused "Rewind to 1985" theme for its 2010 class. The 12-week program kicks off Friday, September 10, 2010 with a trust course team-building session at Rock Springs Environmental Center. Participants then meet early each Tuesday morning for field trips to local sites to gain an inside view of the industries and issues that shape our region. The program ends with a graduation ceremony on December 14, 2010.

DLI's Class of 2010 will tour a factory, visit a farm, and get private audiences with county, city, and state legislators.  Local education, health care, and public safety issues also will be explored, and participants once again will get the opportunity to ride along with Decatur City Police.

The fee for participating in DLI has dropped from $1,200 to $485. Participants will no longer receive college credits for participating in the course and the homework requirement has been dropped. However, participants still will be required to complete a service-learning project. Service-learning projects are team-based assignments that address tangible community problems. Proposed categories for 2010 include community image, government, leadership and education.
